Question by Jennifer H: Does a preacher or justice of the peace have to marry a couple in Alaska?
A friend of my husband and I wants to get married. Well we live in Alaska and he wants my husband to marry them. To preside over the wedding. He said it is legal?? Is it?
Well we looked online and it says if he is a commissioned officer in the Salvation Army. My husband is a commissioned officer but in the Army. Not Salvation Army. I don’t know. Alaska had alot of weird laws..

Best answer:

Answer by Benjamin W
It’s legal so long as he meets the state requirements. If he got ordained online, it’d be legal. There are other legal ways of doing it, but that’s the easiest that I know of.

Check out ULC.net, great source.

Question by BREAD: What is the weather like early July in Alaska?
I am taking the Inside Passage Cruise to Alaska July 4, 2009. We are sailing on the Golden Princess. Has anyone taken this cruise?

Best answer:

Answer by dumbzaa
I haven’t take the cruise because I already live here. The weather changes rapidly in Alaska about 65 degrees ambiant temp is about normal in 2004 Juneau had 42 days of temperature over 70 degrees. Southeast Alaska is quite balmy compared to the rest of Alaska, it gets colder obviously the more North you go but you won’t be going that far North. just hope you don’ cruise up on a rainy or stormy day.

Question by BC: Should we build large detention centers in Alaska to jail Illegal Aliens?
A gulag like Russia had would be a better deterrent for border control. Let them cross the border illegally if they want to do some time up North. I think it would be cheaper to carve them out of their recycle loop and let the enjoy the wilderness of Alaska.

Answer by scott b
Alaska??? That’s too far away from the Southern Border to be practical. Cost too much to ship them up there. Let’s build it in…..Arizona. In the desert somewhere…

Question by candle: How is it up there in Alaska?
I am a Marylander. I am becoming nostalgic about Alaska. Why? Well, that’s the way life is…
I’ve been given very sound advice about Alaska. It is becoming more and more like lower 48s. There’s nothing really different or special about Alaska. You’ll just end up living same life with same people except you’ll just be farther away.

I think there’s good truth in that advice, but anyone else know something else?

Best answer:

Answer by Klondike John
Hmmm…

I have lived here for 40 years, and don’t find any part of it like the lower 48! As for finding anything special about Alaska; well if you have to ask, you just won’t understand.

Alaska is a free spirit; will not be chained down by what the norm thinks. More and more people try to force their way of life, and thinking on us, and frankly, they are the ones who don’t last.

To be successful in living and enjoying life here in the last frontier, you have to remember it is the frontier; still. We have no significant manufacturing, we have few roads and highways (Rhode Island has more road surface than we do, yet we are more than twice the size of Texas); and we have a limited population base (670,000).

Not to say we don’t have the big city influence such as in Anchorage, our largest city; but it takes only a few minutes and you are in wilderness.

Winter is long and grueling for many; lasting from the first of October into the last of March and into April, one must adapt to the long hours of winter darkness. It is however at this time we see the Aurora Borealis.

Summers are sweet. Long hours of daylight (averaging 20 hours a day), yielding abundant fishing and wild life.

It’s the mountains that beckon. The adventure of the far north; and this time of year… Iditarod!

There is nothing the same about Alaska.

“…There’s a land where the mountains are nameless,
And the rivers all run God knows where;
There are lives that are erring and aimless,
And deaths that just hang by a hair;
There are hardships that nobody reckons;
There are valleys unpeopled and still;
There’s a land — oh, it beckons and beckons,
And I want to go back — and I will…”

Question by <33: What was the importance of Hawaii during the 1950′s? and Alaska?
I’m really curious how Hawaii and Alaska impacted the 50′s time period. I’ve been looking in books and all over the web, but I can’t exactly find anything. I know Alaska had a lot of oil, and was a good spot to watch over Russia and the Soviet Union during the Cold War…but how else did Hawaii and Alaska impact the 1950′s?

Thanks in advance!

Best answer:

Answer by Socialist Patriotic Front USA™
Hawaii and Alaska were considered “First in the nation” as Bulwarks against Soviet invasion and threat, and were used for their strategic importance as locations for military bases.

to this day, many military bases survive in these areas.

My friend Lady Battikah (Anna) organized this American Gothique fashion show at Mad Myrna’s in Anchorage, Alaska in early May 2009. She described it as Techno Gothic and invited me to photograph it. I did so with some trepidation since I had no idea what I was getting myself into – but it was a blast. From what I can tell, Techno Gothic equates to Gothic with loud colors and attachments such as gas masks. I learn something new every day!

Question by Jim: Why does Discovery Channel have a boner for Alaska?
4 Hours of Flying Wild Alaska and then FINALLY Mythbusters comes on and it’s ANOTHER “Special Alaska Edition”. Seriously? I used to be interested in the beautiful place until they showed every inch of it on TV all day. Why the sudden interest and obvious obsession?
By the way that starred word is spelled b-o-n-e with an r at the end.
